Inventor/entrepreneur John Stefani generated $1.5 million in first-year sales for his patented ZIPZ shoes. The shoes with interchangeable tops are sold in more than 25 countries including Dubai, Bahrain, Jordan, Belgium, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, the Philippines, Japan, Turkey, Italy, Spain, China and Yemen.

Stefani created a patented zipper technology that allows the wearer to mix and match tops and soles. ZIPZ sells separate pieces in several different styles, patterns and colors for $15 to $80 apiece. No overnight success, he spent five years on research and development before bringing ZIPZ to market in 2009.
